Genove Oil and Air's sponsor banner has hung in the outfield at Murphy Field for over 30 years, but the Waltham-based company's connections to Newton Little League go much deeper.
Co-Owners Phil and Frank Pescoslido grew up playing Newton West Little League in the 1960s, long before the merger of Newton North, West, and Central Little Leagues. Phil's three sons all played Newton North Little League in the 90s, including Rob Pescosolido, Genove's General Manager. "I played for the Yankees and was always proud to have Genove on the back of our uniforms," Rob recalled. Phil's youngest son Keith pitched for the 1998 Newton North LL Williamsport team that won the Massachusetts State Championship, and Phil was a member of the coaching staff alongside Terry Morris and Tom Donellan.
Founded by Phil in 1977, Genove provides home comfort solutions to neighborhoods in Greater Boston and Metrowest. Known for their stellar customer service, they install and maintain a wide range of products including heat pumps, central AC, furnaces, and water heaters. It's not uncommon that local customers were little league teammates or opponents growing up. Service Manager Armando Proia played for the Newton West Red Sox in the 1970s and still runs into players from that team on the job. "You share a lot of lasting memories with the kids you played Little League with and it's always a pleasure seeing those guys now," said Proia.
Office Manager Frank "Bubba" Battista has been a mainstay on Newton Little League diamonds for decades, first as a player, then as an umpire. He started calling games in 1990 and can still be found behind the plate. When asked what has kept him involved for so many years, Battista emphatically replied, "I do it for the love of the game, the kids, the camaraderie, and giving back to the community!"
Genove's support of Newton Little League for over three decades make it one of the league's longest ongoing sponsors, something Rob Pescosolido aims to continue. "We all played Newton Little League growing up and loved it." Rob said. "We're thrilled to stay connected to such a great community organization and look forward to sponsoring more championship teams."
